I have now completed my final piece. To complete my piece I
added hook and eyes to the ends of the ruffle to secure it onto the neck. I
used Millie to model my piece and the outcome of the shoot was very successful.
At this scale I could see my piece in a fashion context however if I was to
change my piece I could see it enlarged in an interior setting. Overall I am
happy with my outcome as the finished piece went to plan. I think the tactile
qualities of the embroidery and Lutradur work with the smooth surface of the
organza.

Evaluation
I have chosen to combine two specialist textile techniques o develop my specialist fabric. I have decided to respond to sculptural textiles and embroidery by combining a ruffle with dissolvable fabric embroidered onto the surface. The tactile tendencies of both techniques will help them merge together to create a large, full piece with many different layers and qualities. I have got to this decision by sampling many different techniques an out of all of the samples I thought these two techniques would work the best together. I have started to consider ideas of how I will develop my ideas into a final piece. I have decided to try and develop the idea of a ruffled collar inspired with historical Elizabethan references. I plan to do some research into historical and contemporary sources in order to get more inspiration and ideas towards my final piece. I intend to design and communicate my design ideas through illustrations, which I will then develop into samples before the final producti9on of my specialist fabric.
Plan:
I have chosen to use organza to create the main ruffle as the material is thin enough to be made into a ruffle but still gives enough body so when attached to the collar the ruffles will be very tactile. I plan to cut long strips of synthetic organza and machine embroider them using cottons that link in with my colour palette. I have chosen a cream organza and I plan to keep with a neutral colour palette of light greens and browns. Once embroidered, I will make them into a ruffle and machine stitch them onto a long strip of fabric to be made into a collar. The material I will use for the backing fabric is a thick silk which will allow movement as the collar goes onto the models neck and it is thick enough to hold the weight of the organza.
